Germany’s first indoor street food hall—an industrial-style space for work, dining, and performances. Nestled between two factory complexes, a former warehouse has been transformed into one of Germany’s most extraordinary corporate dining venues: the WDF55 Foodhall—a place that combines New Work, street food culture, and industrial architecture.

The concept was developed in close collaboration between the corporate catering department, the internal planning teams, and the technical departments. LEIK was responsible for key aspects of the interior design, wayfinding, furnishings, and spatial layout. The hall’s exceptional height allows for a second seating level on a steel structure, which opens up the space vertically and creates an authentic food court atmosphere. The former factory gate has been transformed into a central source of light by a massive glass facade—it brings natural light into the otherwise windowless steel structure.

The neon-colored wayfinding system, originally designed to guide pallet jacks, now leads visitors past four food trucks (“Fries & Soups,” “Pizza & Pasta,” “Burger Truck,” “Desserts & Salads”) and, together with wooden pallets, exposed utility pipes, and sturdy materials, defines the industrial character of the space. All the tableware—from porcelain french fry bowls to enameled retro soup mugs and stainless steel toothpicks—reflects a clear commitment to sustainability: the only single-use item is the napkin.

The Foodhall is bold, trendy, and functional—and was honored with a Special Mention at the 2021 German Design Award for its overall architectural design. The jury particularly praised the consistent execution of the concept of an indoor street food hall, the exciting contrast between the industrial look and modern dining, and the exceptional atmosphere.
